Celebrity chefs photographed beyond the kitchen — each portrait built around an alter ego, imagined character or unexpected side of their personality.
YES CHEF! takes chefs out of the environment in which we expect to see them and places them inside a world created specifically for the portrait.
Working with a series of well-known chefs, Daniel developed individual concepts that played with personality, reputation, interests and alter egos. Each subject became a character — sometimes theatrical, sometimes surreal, sometimes humorous — with locations, props, styling and lighting constructed around their story.
The result is a collection of highly individual portraits connected by a single idea: looking beyond the chef and creating an image of the person, character or imagined persona behind the public identity.
Created as an exhibition series, YES CHEF! brings together conceptual portraiture, storytelling and Daniel’s distinctive approach to lighting and composition.
